When analyzing the wide receiver group for the Chicago Bears heading into training camp, NBC Sports Chicago writer, J.J. Stankevitz, noted “There’s a lot riding on this season for White personally, with the 2015 seventh overall pick becoming a free agent next March after the Bears declined his fifth-year option. If he puts together a full, productive season, he’ll earn a second contract; if not, his chances of sticking in the league don’t seem good.”
White has been a colossal bust for the Bears after his selection in the first round of the 2015 draft. He didn’t really miss much though as the Bears offense has been disappointing as a whole over the last few years. The team is hoping to follow the footsteps of the 2017 Los Angeles Rams this season by ousting old fashioned head coach, John Fox, and welcoming progressive offensive mind, Matt Nagy. The Bears are also hoping to get a Jared Goff-esque sophomore breakout from Mitch Trubisky, who is expected to be utilized better to fit his strengths this season as opposed to being limited to a game manager role.

The days of the Bears expecting WR1 type of production from Kevin White are all but gone. The signing of Allen Robinson all but ensures that. Now with more pressure than ever to stay healthy and succeed, White could find ease in not needing to be “the guy.” White isn’t currently on the radar in redraft leagues but could become a solid late-round flier if he shows well in camp. The Bears offense is trending up and the WR2 role on the team could hold some value if things continue to escalate for the team through the preseason.
