Corey Clement Dynasty Value 2018

Corey Clement Dynasty

Despite all the clever moves Eagles general manager Howie Roseman made in 2017, he got extremely lucky with Corey Clement. The former Wisconsin running back had an impressive four-year college career yet went undrafted after a sub-par NFL Combine and rumored off the field issues. On May 11th, 2017, Clement signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent. Nine months later he caught four passes for 100 yards and beautiful over the shoulder touchdown against the Patriots to win Super Bowl LII.

If you go to Corey Clement’s Combine profile page at NFL.com, you’ll see the scouts got him wrong.

…Clement has the size and athletic ability that will help him land on a depth chart, but he appears to lack the fluidity, decisiveness, and vision needed to become a dependable, productive starting running back. His best fit might be as a “committee back” in a one-cut running scheme.

Clement is 5’10, 220lbs, with solid hands. He has an excellent burst and appears to run at a much faster speed than his clocked 4.68 40-time from last years NFL combine. The Eagles did in fact use committee for their run game last season, but in my opinion, Clement has shown enough to convince the coaching staff that he can do more. I expect the team moves on from LeGarrette Blount (free agent) and deal Wendell Smallwood to whoever will take him. I don’t expect the Eagles who are over the cap to bring back Darren Sproles in 2018.

Dynasty Value

Corey Clement had just as many receptions in the post-season as he did in the regular season. Despite three scores in a blowout game against the Broncos, you could argue Clement’s biggest impact on the Eagles 2017 season came in the Super Bowl. This is a great sign moving forward in my opinion, as it shows the coaching staff trusts him. From an undrafted pickup to a player making plays in the biggest game of the year, Clement should begin to carve out a bigger role in the Eagles offense.

I’m targeting Clement in all my leagues as I feel he could become a player that not only becomes the primary backup to Jay Ajayi but more involved in the passing game.

As for new dynasty leagues starting up, Clement is the perfect deep PPR sleeper that you can add to your team late. I know the strategy trend of “Zero RB” went through the shredder last season, but nevertheless, Clement could add real value in PPR leagues in 2018.

It’s far too early to gauge what his trade value is at the moment, but he may be had for cheap from an owner who isn’t connecting the dots.
