The 10 most intimidating Steelers defenders of all-time
10. Ryan Clark
Clark played second fiddle to Troy Polamalu most of his career in Pittsburgh. However, he was one of the league’s hardest hitters. Clark made receivers think twice about going over the middle and had no problem coming up to stop the run. Just ask Willis McGahee about Ryan Clark.
9. Joey Porter
Porter was a bad man, plain and simple. He took no issue with beating up members of the opposing team before games, a la William Green and Warren Sapp. In the early 2000’s, Porter ushered in the new era of Steel Curtain defense.
8. Greg Lloyd
The heart and soul of Pittsburgh’s renewed “Blitzburgh” defenses of the 90’s, Lloyd embodied everything Steeler football is about. He played with a menacing mean streak and looked like he was out to destroy anything, or anyone, in his path.
7. Jack Ham
A member the famed 70’s Steel Curtain defenses, Ham was a turnover machine. Coupled with the fact that he was a ferocious competitor and hard hitter, there’s no wonder opposing teams weren’t in a hurry to have the football anywhere near him.
6. Rod Woodson
Woodson is one of the best corners to ever play the game. He was a great tackler, as well as being a lockdown corner and solid punt returner. Woodson was a weapon anywhere on the field anytime he was on it.
