How will the Buffalo Bills fare next season under Rex Ryan?

Rex Ryan How will the Buffalo Bills fare next season under Rex Ryan?

The Buffalo Bills had found a new head coach. The Bills gave former New York Jets head Coach Rex Ryan a five-year contract with a base salary of $5.5 million per year.

“Following an extensive search, we are pleased today to announce that Rex Ryan is our new head coach,” Bills owner Terry Pegula said in a statement. “Rex brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the position that we feel will be a tremendous benefit to our players and the entire Bills organization.”

Under the new head coach, how will the Bills fare next season?

In an interview, Pegula said that Ryan is the coach that can bring a championship to Buffalo.

“He was very impressive during the interview process, as were many of the candidates to which we spoke, and we feel Rex is the best fit for our team,” Pegula said. “We look forward to his leadership and expertise in directing our team to the playoffs and bringing a championship to Buffalo for our fans.”

Pegula might be right. Maybe it’s Rex Ryan who can finally bring his team to the playoffs after 15 dry years. But before it can actually happen, the new head coach must do some adjustments both on the offense and defense situation.

Offense

Ryan must pick a good quarterback to get this team going next season. There are reports that if Jay Cutler became available, he might head to Buffalo. The names of E.J. Manuel, Mark Sanchez and even Brian Hoyer are reportedly some of the team’s options too. Whoever he will get, Ryan must make sure that it will be someone than can help him prove his worth as the new head coach.

Defense

Tough defense is what Ryan firmly promised for the Bills next season.

“You mentioned how well we played on defense last year,” Ryan said during his press conference. “Fourth in the league is probably a little disappointing, to be honest with you, because that’s not where my expectations are. I know we’ll lead the league in defense. That’s just the way it goes.”

If what he said is for real, then I guess the Bills will become one of the toughest team in the league. Buffalo definitely got great talents when it comes to defense. They just need someone who can make it work altogether and translate it to WINS.

Defensively, Rex Ryan and Buffalo’s current roster is enough to keep the team at the top of the league. Offensively, well, a lot of adjustments have to be made. There’s a lot of work to be done to create a smooth flowing offense. Ryan must find someone who can be reliable enough at the center. He must also find ways to make the offensive line better than last season.

I personally believe that with the help of Rex Ryan, this team will head to the playoffs next year. If all adjustments can be made, the Bills can end their 15 year playoff drought next season.
