Falcons land Kyle Shanahan as offensive coordinator

The Falcons have hired Kyle Shanahan as their offensive coordinator.

Shanahan served in the same role this past season with the Browns but a difference of opinions between the coaching staff and front office led to his departure.

The hiring of Shanahan may come across as putting the cart before the horse but the Falcons are expected to formally announce Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn as their head coach after the Super Bowl on Feb. 1.

Under Shanahan the Browns offense looked capable even with journeyman Brian Hoyer under center. Shanahan and Hoyer scored 23.2 points per game for the first nine weeks of season before things deteriorated.

The news of Shanahan’s hiring is great news for the skill players on the Falcons namely wide receiver Julio Jones and quarterback Matt Ryan.

Shanahan’s landing in Atlanta cements the fact that father Mike Shanahan will not be landing anywhere with him in a package deal.
