Courtland Sutton to Lead Broncos in Receiving Yards and TD’s?
July 20th | 2018

Broncos rumorsIn making his bold prediction’s for the 2018 NFL season, Denver Post reporter, Kyle Fredrickson, predicted: “Rookie Courtland Sutton will lead the Broncos in receiving yards and touchdowns to earn clear-cut WR1 status.”

This isn’t the first Denver Post news piece hyping Sutton this preseason. Fellow Denver Post reporter, Ryan O’Halloran, mentioned the “Expected (Sutton) to be (an) instant red zone threat” when breaking down the team’s 2018 receiver corps. Fantasy Spin: Sutton, who was selected in the second round of this years draft, is definitely big enough to be a red zone threat at 6’4” and 218 lbs. Sutton also managed to catch 31 TD’s in 39 college games, per O’Halloran.

Demaryius Thomas has been the leading receiver on this team for six consecutive seasons, but his glory days may be behind him. Thomas has seen a decline in essentially every major category of receiving statistics each of the last three seasons. While a lot of that decline is tied to poor quarterback play, Thomas’s days of posting over 1,400 receiving yards and double-digit touchdowns are a thing of the past. Sutton should be a lock for the third receiver role on this new-look Broncos offense. How he adjusts to the pace of the game at the NFL level will be something to watch in preseason. Sutton is more of a late round bench stash at the moment but could carry more value if he is truly featured heavily in the red zone.

RB Committee Coming? Joseph Wants More Fron Booker
July 19th | 2018

Royce FreemanWhen breaking down the running back position for the upcoming season, Denver Post reporter, Ryan O’Halloran, quoted coach Vance Joseph when discussing running back Devontae Booker, “He’s got to come out and work and earn the right to be the (first) guy,” Joseph said. “He understands that with C.J. gone, it’s a wide open race. He’s a good football player, but we want more from him, obviously.”

O’Halloran also noted Joseph saying during minicamp last month, “We want two or three guys to be our main core backs.” This all gels with what the Broncos new running backs coach, Curtis Modkins said, “The bottom line in this league is, you need (two) or three guys with diverse skills to get you through a season.”

Fantasy Spin

While Royce Freeman is the favorite back to own in fantasy at the moment, the competition remains open. Booker will likely be given the first opportunity based on his experience in the league, but he hasn’t shown much by averaging just 3.6 yards per carry so far in his career. There is still a lot to be determined with this backfield at the moment, and any running back should be drafted with caution until we see how things shake out in training camp and through preseason action. A full-blown committee would be an obvious blow to the values of each player and makes Royce Freeman a big risk at his current mid-fifth round ADP.
