Ryan Grant Signs With Colts
The NFL is a business first and foremost. It’s all about the dollars and cents and nobody knows that more over the last few weeks than wide receiver Ryan Grant. The former Washinton Redskin signed a four-year, $29 million contract with the Baltimore Ravens only to have his deal voided after he failed his physical, sending him back to free agency. The failed physical was a loophole that the Ravens used to get out of the deal once Michael Crabtree became available in free agency. Crabtree was cut by the Raiders after signing Jordy Nelson in an offseason of musical chairs played by veteran wide receivers.
Grant has recently signed a one-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts for $5 million and arguably has landed in a better landing spot.
Dynasty Impact
Currently, Ryan Grant is listed as the 4th receiver on the Colts depth chart but should challege for the 3rd WR role in training camp. With Andrew Luck expected to return 100% healthy this season, I feel Dynasty owners may be overlooking the offensive output of the Colts potential in 2018. It’s been so long time since we’ve seen Luck thrive in this league that many can’t remember his 31 TD season from 2016. With a great draft and the new coaching staff revamping the offense, players like Ryan Grant might actually hold some dynasty value in deeper leagues. The Colts receiver corps could definitely use a boost and may still add someone at the NFL Draft, but with so many other team needs the Colts may focus on other areas with their picks.
You always want to be pro-active in Dynasty leagues, and the concept of the Colts returning to their winning ways is hard for the average fan to get behind. It’s so much easier to want to invest in players that were great last season, but the recipe for success is getting in early with a player or team that has potential.
The Colts are a team to watch closely this off-season.
