Eagles Win Super Bowl 52, What Do They Do With Nick Foles Now?
The Philadelphia Eagles upset the New England Patriots to win Super Bowl 52.
In a game that had just one punt, fans were treated to an absolute shootout. There was an NFL record set for the most combined yards in an NFL game (1,151 yards) and Super Bowl MVP, Nick Foles goes into the record books for being the only QB to start his first four playoff games all with a QBRating over 100. Foles had ice water running through his veins as he made some huge plays throughout the game, none more spectacular than a fourth and one trick play where he caught a touchdown before halftime.
40-year-old Tom Brady played an excellent game throwing for 505 yards and threw for 3 touchdowns. Brady picked apart the Eagles secondary a number of times and moved well in the pocket avoiding a pass rush that most experts figured would cause more problems than it did. There were a lot of questions about retirement the week leading up to the Super Bowl, but Brady looked like he could play at least another two seasons. Unforntuley, it was the forced fumble late in the game that sealed the deal for the Pats. A turnover that couldn’t have come at a more perfect time for the Eagles.
It was a season of two parts for the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles. The first being a magical regular season that saw the growth and improvement of franchise quarterback Carson Wentz. The second-year QB, was arguably a lock to win the MVP of the league before a devastating injury against the Rams that landed Wentz on IR, ending his season. Nick Foles was thrown into the fire and asked to lead an NFC playoff favorite with little to no time with the starters. The media picked apart Foles’ performances in weeks 15 and 16 as he tried to hurry up the learning curve and gel with his wide receivers. Luckily, due to the success of the regular season, the Eagles locked up the first overall seed allowing them home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, but more importantly, a bye week to give Foles added time to get prepared for a playoff run. Foles had said throughout Super Bowl media week that the bye week before playing the Falcons was huge for him to get in rhythm with his teammates.

Credit to Eagles Head Coach Doug Pederson for slightly adjusting his offense to better suit Foles’ strengths. By leaning on the RPO’s (run-pass-option) Foles was able to attack defenses with quick passes at the line of scrimmage or get linebackers to shift to allow for easy run lanes for the Eagles rushing attack. The 2017-18 Philly Eagles were arguably the most aggressive offense I’ve witnessed in the 20-years I have followed this team. There was no change with Foles at the helm in the NFC Championship game nor the Super Bowl. They did exactly what they had to do against a great team like the Patriots.

What Happens Now? What Do The Eagles Do With Nick Foles Moving Forward?
Carson Wentz’s injury is expected to keep him in the rehab process throughout most of 2018. He is rumored to be ahead of schedule and could be ready for week one. However, do the Eagles trade Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles while his stock is high? or do them keep him for the final year of his contract and as the temporary starter while Wentz recovers?

This reminds me a lot of the New England Patriots Trade of Jimmy Garoppolo. The Patriots really liked Garoppolo and choose to take less in the trade rather than send him to a dumpster fire that is the Cleveland Browns. It was reported the Browns had offered a first and more for Jimmy Garoppolo but they decided to send him to 49ers for just a second round pick. It’s a very odd situation, one that rarely occurs as the NFL is a business, but in the case of Nick Foles, a man who brought the city of Philadelphia its first championship, they may include Foles in the conversation.
With money not an issue and Wentz still recovering, I think I would lean on wanting to keep Foles, but after going from backup quarterback to Super Bowl MVP, Foles may want to be traded and become a full-time starter in the NFL. If that’s the case, trading him to a team like the Cardinals or Jets would be the right thing to do for the Eagles in my opinion.
