Colts Hire Frank Reich As Head Coach
Colts Announce New Head Coach Twice in 7 Days
The week after the Super Bowl isn’t usually filled with so much drama. With the exception of maybe some heartache from Patriots fans, most people got back into the rhythm of their weekly routine. Of course, things were a little different in Philadephia, as fans celebrated the upset Super Bowl victory and likely needed time off work or a paper writing service to complete tasks for their jobs. The win ends a long drought for Eagles fans and their appreciation isn’t getting unnoticed. Merch sellers like Modell’s, Fanatics and Caplists, are seeing record sales and it’s already been reported that Eagles fans have broken an NFL record for most title merchandise sold.
One person that won’t need a new NFL hat is Josh McDaniels, who shocked the Indianapolis Colts with the news that he would decline the head coaching job hours after accepting the position. On Tuesday morning, two days after losing in Super Bowl Lii, and after agreeing to become the Colts newest Head Coach, McDaniels went back to Gillette Stadium to clean out his office and say goodbye. However, sources say McDaniels instead met for hours with Patriots coach Bill Belichick, owner Robert Kraft, and president Jonathan Kraft. The end result was a change of heart. The Colts could do nothing but re-open their search, after an embarrassing situation with McDaniels.
Some things are not meant to be, and after deciding to choose Philadelphia Eagles OC Frank Reich to be the new head coach instead, one can only wonder if McDaniels staying in New England was a blessing in disguise.
Gregg Doyel of the Indy Star seems the think so, in an article he wrote titled “I love* Colts hire of Frank Reich, and doubters can kiss my asterisk” Gregg goes on to say he loves everything about the guy.
In Philadelphia they’ll tell you that Reich was something of a quarterback whisperer, helping to get rookie Carson Wentz up and running so fast that, by Wentz’s second season in 2017, he was the frontrunner for MVP before suffering a season-ending ACL injury. And when Wentz went down, Reich was handed the empty husk known as Nick Foles and helped Foles become Super Bowl MVP.
Peyton Manning also had positive words to say about Reich. If you remember, Reich spent two seasons as a coaching intern — assisting the team in its victory over the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XLI — before earning a promotion in 2008 to be an offensive assistant coach. The next season, he was promoted once again, this time as the Colts’ quarterbacks coach, where he was tasked with keeping the legendary Peyton Manning on his game — and vice versa.
“He is a tireless worker, “He is a grinder.” Manning was quoted saying about Reich

Are the Colts Better Off with Reich?
I really think so. Josh McDaniels went 11-17 as a Head Coach of the Denver Broncos over a two-year stretch back in 2009-10. The fact that he backed out is far better than getting him to accept a job he had doubts about. Frank Reich is an ex-player and has had success as a coach in one form or another. Having the luxury of playing with a great quarterback in Andrew Luck, Reich should be able to help put the team in a position to win.
