Even by Dustin Johnson standards, this is an enormous drive at the Memorial

This moonshot was outrageous, even for the biggest hitter in the game.

Dustin Johnson may have been a tad cranky when he stepped to the 17th tee at Muirfield Village Golf Club during Thursday’s opening round of the Memorial Tournament, because the world No. 1 absolutely pulverized a shot that was otherworldly even for the PGA Tour’s leading driver of the ball.

DJ let loose with a drive that traveled 413 yards on the 478-yard, par-4 17th hole. I’m no math whiz, but let’s see, 478 minus 413 — you get the picture; it was huge.

Unfortunately, despite padding his booming stats, Johnson was only able to walk away with a par on his eighth hole of the day (he started on No. 10), and that was after a water ball and a three-putt resulted in a triple bogey-6 on the par-3 16th. The reigning U.S. Open champion dropped another shot on the par-3 fourth, which dropped him into a share of 47th place at 4-over — 11 shots back of early leader David Lingmerth’s 7-under.
