2017 NFL draft results: Fantasy implications of Mitchell Trubisky to the Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears have drafted quarterback Mitchell Trubisky with the second pick in the 2017 NFL draft. The Bears held the third pick in the draft, but traded up with the San Francisco 49ers to select Trubisky at No. 2. He joins a quarterback depth chart that includes Mike Glennon, Mark Sanchez, and Connor Shaw.
Trubisky was a one-year starter at North Carolina, but that was all he needed to become one of the top quarterback targets in the draft, throwing 30 touchdowns against just six interceptions last season for the Tar Heels. He also set school single-season records for passing yards (3,748), completions (304), and total offense (4,056).
Trubisky moves well within the pocket and makes smart decisions, as evidenced by his miniscule interception numbers. He projects as a reliable NFL starter.
Fantasy impact: The Bears signed Mike Glennon to a three-year, $45 million contract earlier this offseason. In reality, the structuring was one year with Glennon needing to prove he was worth the remaining two. The selection of Trubisky does not bode well for Glennon’s long-term future, but for 2017, it should have little bearing. Trubisky could surprise in training camp, but more than like he will be sitting his rookie season. Glennon loses some of the modest dynasty value he already had.
