FantasyDraft Tips For Week 2

FantasyDraft Cash Game Picks for Week 2

Build your rosters with the contest settings in mind. In terms of cash games, choose players that are not so boom-or-bust. Everybody that finishes within the top range receives the same payout. So in a 50/50 contest for example of 60 entries finishing 30th will net you the same winnings as placing 1st. Save those high-risk players for tournaments.

How did we all do in FantasyDraft in Week 1? Anybody take home any money? If you don’t know what FantasyDraft is all about then, please check out my earlier article on what separates it from other Daily Fantasy Sites.

Players to Target

QB:

Drew Brees ($13,700), Ben Roethlisberger ($13,000), Philip Rivers ($12,600), Cam Newton ($12,300) Jimmy Garoppolo ($11,500)

Of the big name quarterbacks for cash games, Brees and Roethlisberger are very difficult to not roster. They are both playing at home in very favorable matchups. If you are looking to spend significantly less with a safe option at quarterback Garoppolo should be your target. The Lions defense looked dreadful against rookie quarterback Sam Darnold. I am also sure that Jimmy G is familiar with Matt Patricia’s defense from their days in New England.

RB:

Todd Gurley ($16,900), Melvin Gordon ($14,500), Christian McCaffrey ($12,800), Dalvin Cook ($12,300), Jay Ajayi ($11,500), Adrian Peterson ($10,400), Dion Lewis ($9,800), James White ($8,400)

At the running back position, Gordon and McCaffrey are running backs to target because of their price. Gordon is facing off versus the Buffalo Bills, who have one of the worst run defenses in the NFL. With McCaffrey, he faces a beat-up Falcons defense that notoriously struggles against pass-catching running backs. Over the past three seasons, no team has allowed more receptions to the running back position than Atlanta. Ajayi and Peterson are both safe plays. Lewis and White are both great plays based on FantasyDraft being a PPR format. Lewis significantly out-snapped Derrick Henry in Week 1 and White should see heavy involvement with so many other injuries to New England Patriots’ running backs.

WR:

Tyreek Hill ($15,600), Odell Beckham Jr. ($14,700), Cooper Kupp ($10,300), Devin Funchess ($9,200)

Tons of great plays across the top at the wide receiver position. To gain value though, targeting Beckham Jr. is the best strategy. He is by far the best value at his price for a wide receiver that can put up elite production. Beckham has also owned the Cowboys during his career: Avg. 8.0 targets, 5.2 receptions, 71.0 yards, 0.8 TD in 6 games versus Dallas. With wide receivers in the FLEX, I love Funchess and Kupp. Funchess should see solid target share with Greg Olsen out. Via Field Yates on Twitter, when Greg Olsen was off the field in 2017, Devin Funchess saw nearly 25% of the Panthers targets. Kupp saw nine targets last week from Jared Goff and continues to be a red zone weapon in the Rams’ offense.

TE:

George Kittle ($8,000), Ricky Seals-Jones ($5,600), Jonnu Smith ($6,400)

At the tight end, I love George Kittle. He led the team in targets and should be safe to produce against a very subpar Lions defense. The Jimmy G – Geroge Kittle stack should be very effective in cash lineups. Some of the better cheap buys at tight end belong to Seals-Jones and Jonnu Smith. Smith will start in place for Delanie Walker and RSJ faces off versus the Rams defense that gave up 180 yards plus to Jared Cook. If you are spending up at running back and wide receiver go cheap at tight end with these options.

DST:

Chargers ($7400), Rams ($7300), Broncos ($6000), Jets ($5500), Titans ($4,600)

GPP Game Picks for Week 2

To win in tournaments you need to be the contrarian. Be the person who opposes or rejects the popular opinion. This is how you build successful GPP lineups. That because you need to place within at least the top 25% to receive a payout. Diversify your lineups with players that will have low ownership. Identify the chalk players and use that to your advantage. Say the chalk player at wide receiver is Player X at $9000. Player Y is priced slightly under him at $8700 but has terrible matchup/coming off a disappointing performance. Target Player Y in GPPs. You are playing to win, not be safe.

Players to Target

QB:

Tyrod Taylor ($10,400), Matt Ryan ($10,900) Nick Foles ($10,300), Marcus Mariota ($11,200), Alex Smith ($11,300)

Tyrod Taylor is one of the most interesting quarterbacks in daily this week. This is because I do not think you necessarily have to stack him with one of his receivers. This is just based on his rushing ability. As I referenced in my Waiver Wire article, Taylor rushed for 77 yards in Week 1. This propelled him as a top fantasy option. His price is dirt-cheap and that’s exactly what you want in a GPP. Cheap quarterbacks. That’s because the quarterback position is the easiest position to exceed the return on your investment. Just ask anybody who drafted Ryan Fitzpatrick last week 😏

Another cheap quarterback that you need in GPPs is Matt Ryan. After Thursday’s night despicable performance I can guarantee you Ryan is going to be at an extremely low percentage. However, you need to use that to your advantage and get on Ryan when he is this low. The matchup against Carolina is a key factor. Carolina is the one defense to bring out the best in Matt Ryan. Last season Ryan threw for over 300 yards just four times. Two of those times were against Carolina. Their secondary is the weakness of their defense, and the Falcons will be coming off ten days of rest. The Falcons defense also has been hurt through some injuries so I expect the Panthers to put up points as well. Stack him with Julio Jones who averages over 100 yards against the Panthers. Ryan is the ultimate GPP quarterback this week. Unless you really want to be bold and go with Nick Foles. But considering that the Buccaneers have the worst secondary unit in the NFL, perhaps it’s not really bold at all.

RB:

Royce Freeman ($8,400) Duke Johnson Jr. ($7700), Rex Burkhead ($9,000), LeSean McCoy ($11,600)

For running backs, I anticipate that Royce Freeman will be low owned with all the Philip Lindsay hype. I still expect to see Freeman get the majority of early-down work, and he should be productive versus the Raiders defense who allowed over 100 rushing yards and 39 receiving yards to Todd Gurley in Week 1. Duke Johnson Jr. is another running back that will see low ownership because he was a non-factor in Week 1. If the Browns fall behind early in the game, it could be a very productive day for Duke Johnson. His price also makes him very easy to build around in lineups.

WR:

Julio Jones ($16,200), DeAndre Hopkins ($15,000), Mike Wallace ($7,100), Corey Davis ($10,600), Sammy Watkins ($8,500) Kelvin Benjamin ($8200), Chris Godwin ($8,700), Calvin Ridley ($6,700) Jamison Crowder ($9,800)

My absolute favorite GPP wide receiver this week is Mike Wallace. He was on the field for over 91% of the snaps in Week 1 and had three targets. Each of those targets accumulated to 109 air-yards for an average depth of target of 36.30 yards. Nick Foles and Wallace never connected in Week 1, but I love the matchup in Week 2 versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Wallace should at least be able to reel in one deep reception against the Buccaneers soft secondary. Especially when he squares off versus rookie cornerback Carlton Davis. Davis was the one “covering” Michael Thomas in Week 1.

TE:

Travis Kelce ($11,300), Jordan Reed ($9,300), Ricky Seals-Jones ($5,600) Benjamin Watson ($6700), O.J. Howard ($5,500), Ryan Griffin ($5,200)

Rounding things out at tight end Travis Kelce let owners down last week, so I can see his ownership being lower. If you want to pay up for a tight end Kelce will be playing in a very high scoring game this weekend against Pittsburgh. For you frugal players like myself, the lowest you can get and stay contrarian is with tight end Ryan Griffin. He was third on the team in targets in Week 1 but had no catches. It was actually all on Deshaun Watson who kept missing him. Griffin was getting open a ton. He’s a great return on investment at his price across all daily formats.

DST:

Patriots ($6000), Vikings ($5000), Texans ($5000), Cowboys ($4500), Buccaneers ($4,200)
