- Baker Mayfield impressing in Camp
Date: July 31st | 2018
Tweeting from Brown’s camp, Ben Allbright has said that the Browns staff have been “floored” by Mayfield in this preseason.
Mayfield was drafted #1 in this year’s NFL draft and with that, comes into the league with some lofty expectations. But the rookie also had some of the unflattering comparisons to another highly publicized Browns QB, Johnny Manziel, due to his on-field antics during his Oklahoma days.
Mayfield has quickly shut those down within the early days of Brown’s camp with his willingness to learn and team-first attitude. He has shown a strong, accurate arm, a quick release and is yet to throw a pick in camp. All of this has led Hue Jackson to say, “Baker Mayfield has been everything I thought a quarterback should be for our organization thus far”.
However, Jackson has also reiterated that Tyrod is their starting QB, and with that, the team feels comfortable in bringing Mayfield along slowly.

Fantasy Spin
Don’t buy into the hype of Mayfield for redraft leagues. He is clearly an unbelievable talent and the Browns QB of the future but likely won’t see much action this season without injuries clearing the way for him. Mayfield is a great investment in dynasty leagues because once the Browns decide he is ready, they will hand him the keys to this offense and not look back.
The Browns have built a solid foundation for a bounce-back season due to some key acquisitions in the offseason. Jarvis Landry, Josh Gordon (should he recover in time), Carlos Hyde, Duke Johnson, Nick Chubb and David Njoku are easily the most talented offense the city of Cleveland has seen for years. But for the meantime, it will be Tyrod Taylor to benefit from the weapons surrounding him. Mayfield just has to be ready when his name is finally called.

- Tyrod Taylor Hits Jarvis Landry Deep for Browns Play of the Day
Date: July 26th | 2018
Cleveland.com reporter, Mary Kay Cabot, broke down the happenings of the Browns first day of training camp. Something interesting that was spoken of much during the offseason quickly came to fruition; Jarvis Landry being used as more than a slot receiver.
Cabot noted, “Tyrod Taylor, working with the first team, made the play of the day when he fired a ball down the deep left side to Jarvis Landry.” Cabot went on to mention, “Taylor to Landry is becoming a familiar refrain, especially with Gordon absent. The three-time Pro Bowler caught passes all over the field, but made the play of the day on the long sideline reception” and that, ”The Browns will count on these two to score a lot this season, and Landry is eager to improve on his 8.8-yard per catch average from a year ago.”
Fantasy Spin
Landry has been a PPR maven in fantasy football as he lead the league with 112 receptions just last season. Landry wasn’t really a factor in the end zone until just last season when he nabbed a career-high 9 touchdowns. Creative usage and a higher yard per reception is exactly what Landry is going to need to maintain solid WR1 status with an expected decline in his target total from the lofty 161 targets he saw last season with the Dolphins. The Browns opened camp without Josh Gordon, as expected, which is giving Taylor and Landry all the time in the world to build on their already evident chemistry. Landry could actually wind up outperforming his current mid-fifth round ADP.
