Raiders ready to make run at WR Randall Cobb during free agency -

The Oakland Raiders are ready to make a run at Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb during free agency, Bill Williamson of ESPN.com reports.

While Cobb reportedly prefers to stay in Green Bay and re-sign with the Packers, the Raiders are expected to tempt him with an impressive offer when the free agency signing period begins on March 10.

The Raiders have nearly $54 million in cap space to go shopping with during free agency, which is more than enough to afford Cobb, who is looking for a contract that will pay him $9 million a season.

The Raiders are looking to build a solid receiving group around second-year quarterback David Carr and Cobb would have the makings of being an immediate No. 1 receiver.

The Raiders, who haven’t had a 1,000-yard receiver since Randy Moss in 2005, appear willing to invest in Cobb, who was named to his first Pro Bowl last season after recording 91 catches, 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns.

If they can convince Cobb that the move to Oakland would be beneficial, it will be the second year in a row the Raiders sign a Packers free agent receiver, as they signed James Jones to a three-year deal last offseason.
