Johan Santana signs minor league deal with Blue Jays
The Toronto Blue Jays have signed pitcher Johan Santana to a minor league contract.
Santana, 35, will have to pitch his way back to the majors after sitting out the last two seasons. His comeback attempt last year was thwarted by a torn Achillies.
The veteran left-hander experienced shoulder soreness during winter ball last month but tests showed no structural damage. He is a longshot to ever have any success at the big league level again but given that its a minor league deal there is nothing to lose here on the Blue Jays part by throwing him a bone. He will enter Spring Training trying to win the final spot in their rotation.
In his career Santana is 139-78 with a 3.21 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP between stops with the Minnesota Twins and New York Mets.
