Will Rudy Gobert Continue to Provide Fantasy Value

Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert started four games in place of Enes Kanter (ankle) and made the most of his opportunity. The youth French center shot 68.2 percent from the floor while averaging nine rebounds, an assist, 5.3 blocks, 1.5 steals and 9.8 points in 33.5 minutes per game.

Kanter returned with 16 points and seven rebounds in 21 minutes, while Gobert scored just four points on two of two shooting. He still made his mark though adding five rebounds, three assists, three blocks and a steal in 35 minutes of play. He also helped limit Dwight Howard to eight points and eight rebounds.

On the year Gobert is averaging 6.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 2.2 blocks and 0.6 steals while shooting 64.3 percent from the floor in 20.7 minutes per game. Kanter is providing 14 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, but he’s only protecting the rim to the tune of 0.4 blocks per game.

Even before Gobert’s four-game stretch he started to play a more prominent role for the Jazz. In December he averaged 8.3 rebounds and a pair of blocks in 15 games. He notched double-digit rebounds in four of those games. In six January games he’s averaging nine points, eight rebounds, 1.3 assists, 4.7 blocks and 1.2 steals. He’s clearly making a difference on defense. The Jazz are allowing 94.2 points per game during those six games. In the first 32 games they gave up 100 points per game.

With the Jazz eight games out of the eighth seed, it only makes sense to develop their young talent. Kanter and Derrick Favors will continue to log heavy minutes, but Trevor Booker should see his 19.6 minutes per game dip.

For the value that Gobert provides in the blocks and rebounds categories, he’s a solid fantasy option.
