What is Jameis Winston’s NFL future?

What is Jameis Winston’s NFL future?

Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston is arguably one of the most talented athletes at the upcoming NFL draft. He is the 2013 Heisman Trophy winner, 2013 Orange Bowl champion and a receiver of the Manning award. He is ACC’s 2013 Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Offensive Rookie of the Year and 2014 Athlete of the Year. Skills and talent wise, he is definitely one heck of a quarterback who surely got a bright future at the NFL. But because of his legal troubles, off-field issues and immaturity, his chances of making it big at the pro-league might become a big question.

Jameis Winston is expected to be picked at the top of the upcoming NFL draft. But according to some reports, he is falling on the NFL draft boards, just like what happened to Johnny Manziel. Jay Glazer of Fox Sports mentioned that:

“Every general manager I talked to this week said, ‘we are either dropping Jameis Winston down, or we really have to consider whether we want him in our locker room,'”

Obviously, his issues are already affecting his NFL future, even right before he gets drafted. Fox Sports also stated that:

“due to possible rule changes involving sanctions against teams, franchises that employ players with off-field issues could have draft picks taken away, further diminishing the prospects for rookies-to-be like Winston.”

Just like what others are saying, I personally believe that Winston need more than skills and talent to find success in the NFL. Yes, he is a great competitor with a winning attitude but what concerns the team the most is his work ethic and maturity issues.

Standing 6 foot 4 and weighing around 230 lbs, it’s given that Winston will be a beast under the center. He is very mobile and because of his built, he is very difficult to tackle in the pocket or even on the run. He is a type of quarterback made to become a superstar in the NFL. Many believe that if he gets drafted, he is a surefire starter especially for teams who doesn’t have a franchise quarterback at their roster.

If he can quickly mature right at his rookie season, I think Michael Vick’s prediction about him is possible. The New York Jets quarterback, who got his own share of legal issues before, had nothing but praises for Jameis Winston.

“I think he’s the future of the NFL,” Vick told NJ.com. “I’ve been around so long; I appreciate guys coming out of college. I look forward to watching him. I have high expectations for him.”

Winston is physically gifted and talented enough to find success in the NFL. He can become a good starter and maybe a great NFL quarterback in the future. The only one that can stop him from making it big at the pro-league is himself. It’s his choice if he wanted to become one of the greatest quarterback who ever played in the NFL or become one of the Heisman Trophy winners who eventually ended up a big bust in the NFL.
