Former Bills head coach Doug Marrone joins Jaguars staff

The Jacksonville Jaguars have hired former Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone as assistant head coach and offensive line coach.

Marrone replaces George Yarno, who left the team last June to begin cancer treatment. Assistant Luke Butkus was named interim O-line coach for the season.

Marrone went 15-17 in the past two seasons with the Bills before opting out of his contract earlier this month because of uncertainty over possible organizational changes. The clause in his contract that allowed him to do that also guaranteed his $4 million salary in 2015.

With two rookies and two second-year players starting on the line, the Jaguars gave up a franchise-record 71 sacks. Two days after the season, coach Gus Bradley said he expected Yarno to return for the 2015 season.

Marrone interviewed with Bradley last week. The Jaguars, who are coaching the Senior Bowl this week in Mobile, Alabama, still need to hire an offensive coordinator.

The Jaguars are still searching for an offensive coordinator to replace Jedd Fisch, whom Bradley fired on Dec. 30. Former Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase and former Oakland Raiders quarterbacks coach Greg Olson appear to be the front-runners.
